Why 2tix ?
The original reason for creating the 2tix system was to create a website for the many writings of Edward (Teddy) Goldsmith, who founded The Ecologist magazine in 1970.
Due to the large number of articles involved, and the requirement to be able to add further articles, index articles by keywords, provide search facilities, and make instant changes affecting the website as a whole, we decided to do this by way of a fully database-driven, automated website publishing system, more widely known as a "content management system".
We could, no doubt, have used any number of off-the-shelf CMSs, or subscribed to those offered by existing providers. However we decided to construct our own in order to have the exact features we needed, and in order to retain the capability to add additional features and capabilities as required.
We also decided to construct the system in such as way as to support multiple websites, all using the same scripts on a webserver, but accessing different sets of database tables.
The original website is to be seen at www.edwardgoldsmith.com. This was soon followed by a second such website, in French, at www.teddygoldsmith.org.
Since then the 2tix has proved its usefulness and flexibility as a general-purpose website-creation system where the emphasis is on speed, flexibility, ease of use, maintainability, and the capacity to handle from just a few up to hundreds of pages. See these examples of 2tix websites in action.
